You’ll find a laid-back vibe, endless outdoor adventures like hiking Lion’s Head or surfing at Muizenberg, and a food scene that’s seriously next level. Work is easy with fast WiFi, cozy cafés, and growing coworking options. Expect a perfect mix of productivity, adventure, and new friends to explore with.

Location & Culture | Digital nomads Cape Town

Cape Town sits at the southern tip of Africa, with Table Mountain as its backdrop and the Atlantic Ocean at its feet. The city is famous for its vibrant food scene—think fresh seafood, Cape Malay curries, and world-class wine. Just outside Cape Town, you’ll find quieter escapes like Muizenberg and Hout Bay, perfect for a change of pace. Cape Town feels super international, with a friendly nomad community and locals who are used to visitors. It’s easy to make friends, and the city feels safe and welcoming for anyone looking to work and explore.

Activities | Digital Nomads Cape Town

Although Cape Town is a big city, there’s so much to do beyond the usual tourist spots. Depending on when you visit, you can hike Table Mountain, try surfing at Muizenberg, or join a yoga class on the beach. Explore local markets, take a wine tour, or just chill with new friends at sunset. Whether you’re into adventure, food, or culture, Cape Town has something for everyone—no matter your vibe.

Coworking in Cape Town

The digital nomad scene in Cape Town is buzzing, with new laptop-friendly cafés and coworking spaces popping up all the time. You’ll find everything from cozy coffee shops to full-on coworking hubs with fast WiFi - even during loadshedding. Just a heads up: standards can vary, so it’s worth checking reviews before you settle in. Here are some coworking options our digital nomad community has tested in Cape Town:

NOMADICO WORKSPACE CAPE TOWN

Our Nomadico home in Cape Town is set up for you to get straight to work - and play. You’ll have fast, stable WiFi (even during loadshedding), comfy chairs, and a cozy setup that makes it easy to focus. Every room and studio is work-ready, plus there’s a dedicated meeting room for private calls. When you need a break, you’re just minutes from the beach - perfect for a quick walk to clear your head. The coworking space is exclusive to Nomadico guests, so you’ll always have a spot to settle in and get things done. Work, beach, repeat - Cape Town style.

WORKSHOP17 KLOOF STREET

This coworking spot nails the essentials: fast, reliable WiFi, comfy office chairs, and a bright, stylish space that feels more like a cool café than a stuffy office. Prices are mid-range (about 13 USD / day) but drop if you book for a week or more. Perks? Great coffee and water are always on tap, there are plenty of lunch options just steps away, and the vibe is friendly without ever feeling packed or noisy. Downsides? Parking can be tricky, and it gets a bit busy during peak hours, so snagging your favorite spot isn’t always guaranteed. But if you’re after a productive workday in the heart of Cape Town, Workshop17 is a solid bet.

CAPE TOWN CAFÉS FOR REMOTE WORK

Cape Town’s got some awesome laptop-friendly cafés, especially if you want to be close to the beach. Bootlegger Blouberg is a favorite—think plenty of plugs, strong WiFi, and ocean views just a quick stroll away. The vibe is super chill, and you’ll find lots of other nomads and locals working here, so it’s easy to strike up a conversation or just settle in for a productive day. Plus, Bootlegger is a local chain, so you can always switch it up and try their Sandown location for a change of scenery - same reliable coffee and remote-work-friendly setup.

If you’re after something a bit cozier, Shift Espresso Bar is a go-to. It’s got great coffee, solid WiFi, and a laid-back atmosphere where laptops are totally welcome. Perfect for deep work or just people-watching between calls. Heads up: these spots can get busy, especially during peak hours, so snagging a good seat might take a little luck. But overall, Cape Town’s café scene is super welcoming for remote workers looking for good vibes and good coffee.

Climate | Digital nomads Cape Town

If you’re chasing sunshine and adventure, Cape Town is calling your name. Expect mild, sunny days from October to April—perfect for beach trips, hikes, and exploring the city’s vibrant neighborhoods. This is also the best time for surfing, wine tasting, and catching those epic sunsets over Table Mountain. From May to September, things cool down a bit with some rain, but the city stays lively with cozy cafés, bustling markets, and whale watching along the coast. No matter the season, Cape Town’s energy and natural beauty make it easy to find your groove—whether you’re working, exploring, or just soaking up the good vibes with new friends.

Why go in low or shoulder season?

From May to September, Cape Town slows down and shows off a different side. The crowds thin out, making it easier to explore the city’s epic hikes, cozy cafes, and stunning coastlines at your own pace. The surf is still good, especially for beginners and intermediates, and you’ll find more space in the water. Expect cooler temps and the occasional rainy day, but that just means greener mountains and dramatic sunsets. Plus, you can snag better deals on accommodation and activities. Just pack a warm layer and get ready for moody skies, whale watching, and a more laid-back, local vibe.

Communities | Digital nomads Cape Town

Cape Town has quickly become a favorite base for digital nomads and expats from around the world. You’ll find nomads everywhere—at coworking spaces, hiking up Lion’s Head, or grabbing coffee at a beachside café. The vibe is open and welcoming, making it easy to meet new friends and dive into the local scene. Our own coliving community is super social, with weekly family dinners, hikes, and spontaneous surf sessions. There are also plenty of meetups, language exchanges, and Facebook groups where you can connect with like-minded people. Whether you’re here for the adventure, the work-life balance, or just the good company, Cape Town’s community makes it easy to feel at home.

Cost of living Cape Town

Cape Town isn’t the cheapest city in South Africa, and prices can catch you off guard—especially in the more popular neighborhoods. It’s a hotspot for tourists and digital nomads, so expect to pay a bit more. Stick to local cafes and markets, though, and you’ll find ways to keep your budget in check.

A day in the life of a Digital nomad in Cape Town

Find out what you can do as a digital nomad here during the week and the weekend.

During the week

Depending on your work timezone, you might kick off your morning with a sunrise hike up Lion’s Head or a yoga session on the beach. Or grab a flat white with other nomads at a local café before picking up fresh fruit at the Oranjezicht City Market. If you’re working early hours, you’ll have your afternoons free to catch some waves at Muizenberg, take a dip in the ocean, or explore the colorful streets of Bo-Kaap. Tuesday evenings are perfect for joining our weekly family dinner at the coliving space - an easy way to meet new friends. Other nights, you can catch a sunset drive along Chapman’s Peak, try Cape Malay cuisine at a local spot, or join a trivia night in town. Cape Town’s mix of adventure, community, and epic scenery makes every day feel like a new experience.

On the weekend

Start your Saturday with breakfast and a flat white at a local café, then head to Clifton 2nd Beach for a chill day in the sun - don’t forget your sunscreen, the Cape Town sun is no joke. If you’re up for something more active, try a surf lesson at Muizenberg Beach, where the waves are perfect for beginners. Prefer a quieter vibe? Pack a picnic and find your own peaceful spot at Noordhoek Beach, a long stretch of sand with epic mountain views. If you want to explore beyond the city, a day trip to Stellenbosch is a must. Think wine tasting, cute streets, and mountain backdrops - way less crowded than the city center, but just as charming. Wrap up your weekend with sunset at Signal Hill or a cozy dinner with your new friends at the coliving space.

How to get to Cape Town

Cape Town is easy to reach, with direct flights from major cities landing at its international airport. If you’re already in South Africa, buses and trains connect Cape Town with places like Johannesburg and Durban. Many nomads continue their journey along the Garden Route or head up to Namibia. Others explore more of Africa, like Mozambique or Tanzania. I also recommend checking out Johannesburg—it’s got a creative energy and some amazing food spots.
