Coliving & Remote Work Glossary

What is a Drop-In Desk?

A drop-in desk is a type of hot desk that’s available on a very short-term basis — typically by the hour or day. It’s designed for flexibility, allowing remote workers to show up, grab a seat, and get to work without any long-term commitment or membership.

It’s a quick, on-demand solution for when you need a proper place to work — now.

Why Does a Drop-In Desk Matter for Digital Nomads or Remote Workers?

When you’re on the move, flexibility is everything. Drop-in desks give you access to a reliable workspace without the need to plan far ahead or commit to a pass. They’re especially useful for spontaneous work sessions, meetings, or when your accommodation setup just isn’t cutting it.

They’re also a great way to test out a coworking space before investing in longer access.

How Does Nomadico Relate to Drop-In Desks?

Nomadico itself doesn’t offer drop-in desks — when you stay with us, workspace access is included for the full length of your booking. That said, if you want to work elsewhere for a change of scenery, our community managers can point you to nearby coworking spaces or cafés that offer drop-in options.

In some destinations, you can easily find coworking spaces that let you pay by the hour or the day — no strings attached.

Common Misconceptions About Drop-In Desks

“They’re hard to find.”

Not anymore — in digital nomad hubs, they’re everywhere. Coworking spaces and even some cafés now offer drop-in access.

“You don’t get any real perks.”

Many drop-in options include WiFi, comfy seating, and even coffee or community access — just without a membership.

“You’ll be stuck without a seat.”

Some spaces do get busy, but most offer plenty of availability — especially during off-peak hours.
