Coliving & Remote Work Glossary

What is a Hot Desk?

A hot desk is a flexible, non-reserved desk in a shared workspace. You simply show up, grab any available seat, and get to work. It’s the coworking world’s version of first-come, first-served — great for people who don’t need a fixed spot and want to keep things flexible.

Why Does a Hot Desk Matter for Digital Nomads or Remote Workers?

Hot desks are ideal for remote workers on the move — no long-term commitments, just pay for a day or a pass and get access to a professional environment. They offer affordability, flexibility, and the chance to meet others, which makes them perfect for nomads passing through town or switching locations often.

How Does Nomadico Relate to Hot Desks?

In Nomadico homes with a dedicated workspace, the setup is essentially hot desk-style — you pick a spot that works for you that day. Everyone shares the space, and there are no assigned desks. It’s casual, flexible, and fits the nomad rhythm.

In some locations, we work together with nearby coworking spaces where guests can grab a hot desk if they’re looking for something outside the home base.

Common Misconceptions About Hot Desks

“They’re chaotic or unproductive.”

A good hot desk setup is organized and calm — with plenty of seating, outlets, and strong WiFi.

“You can’t leave your stuff unattended.”

True in public cafés, but most coworking spaces and colivings feel secure enough to step away briefly.

“It’s just for budget travelers.”

Not at all — many remote workers prefer hot desks for the flexibility and social aspect.
