What you can expect from Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria has the biggest digital nomad community of the Canary Islands. The island is popular for good reason: it offers solid infrastructure, fast internet in most areas, and a lifestyle that makes it easy to stay productive while actually enjoying where you live.
With its diverse landscape, you can go surfing, hiking, spend a day at the beach, explore the city, or take a boat trip out on the Atlantic. You can expect a vibrant daily life with a healthy balance between focused work and time spent outside.
Guide sections:

Location & Culture: Gran Canaria As Your Digital Nomad Home
Gran Canaria is an island located in the Canary Islands, an autonomous community of Spain situated in the Atlantic Ocean. It's the third biggest of the seven Canary Islands. Since it sits close to the African coast, flight times from Europe can be a bit longer than you might expect. From most European cities you are looking at around 4 hours, from Madrid about 3 hours to Las Palmas, the capital.
Gran Canaria is famous for its big white sand beaches, good hikes, and an overall vibrant life. People on the Canary Islands like to spend their days outside, and this is something you can really feel here.
Staying in Las Palmas gives you the perfect mix of everything: two easily walkable beaches, surf options right at your doorstep, and a good community with locals as well as internationals from all over the world. Food is also quite a big thing on Gran Canaria, with special Canarian tapas like papas arrugadas and mojo sauce.
Activities | Digital Nomads Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria being an island means most activities revolve around water and beaches. Surfing, snorkeling, beach volleyball, you name it. But the island also has quite a big hiking scene, with volcanic landscapes, rocky trails, and massive sand dunes worth exploring.

Coworking in Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is one of the top locations for digital nomads due to its big nomad scene, especially in Las Palmas. This is mainly down to quite a few coliving options, a great coworking offering, lots of working cafés, and a vibrant community.
Colivings usually come with a great workspace or direct access to coworking spaces. In Las Palmas you really don't need to worry about reliable internet or work conditions at all. (It's a hotspot for nomads for a reason 😊)
Here are some coworking options that our digital nomad community has tested on Gran Canaria:
NOMADICO COLIVING, Agaete
Ready to swap city noise for Tuscan hills or the buzz of Florence? Our Nomadico homes in Italy are set up for seamless remote work - think Starlink, mesh WiFi, ergonomic chairs, and desks in every room. Work from a sunlit coworking space, a forest terrace, or a cozy café in Florence. When you log off, you’re steps from world-class food, wine, and endless adventures - mountains, beaches, and vibrant piazzas. Whether you’re craving quiet countryside or lively city vibes, Italy’s got you covered. Just bring your laptop and your appetite for la dolce vita.

Santander Work Café, Las Palmas
Santander Bank offers work cafés all around Spain. This is basically a coworking setup with big work desks, fast WiFi, and a café to get drinks and food. Access is free, you only need to register once and get a membership number. Free water is provided and you can also get access to a private room for meetings. You can also take calls directly from the work desk.
Talleres Palermo
A café and coworking combined. You can either work downstairs in the café area and enjoy the great workshop-style alternative vibe, or book a spot in their coworking space. The café offers quite a range of different seating options and when our community was there, it wasn't too crowded. The coworking costs about 13€ per day and you can just show up or book online.

The climate & best time to stay in Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is warm all year round, but it definitely has its seasons. The most popular time on the island is the European winter, roughly from October to February. This is when you'll experience the best weather conditions in Las Palmas. From February onwards it can get a bit more stormy and cloudy. The second high season is European summer, when the island heats up and fills up again.

Why go in low or shoulder season?
Less crowds, more focus time, and still very liveable weather. You'll still be walking around in a t-shirt most days, hitting the surf, and going on hikes. And if you need guaranteed sun, the south of the island almost always delivers, though it also tends to draw more tourists.
Communities | Digital nomads Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is a top European hub for digital nomads. If you work from a café or coworking, you'll find fellow nomads almost anywhere. There is also quite a big community of remote workers who have moved to the island permanently. Besides regular meetups on apps like Meetup, there are also weekly bar nights and beach volleyball meetups to meet others. In Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, you really don't need to worry about finding your crowd. Many people are very open to getting to know new people.

Cost of living Gran Canaria
For many digital nomads, life in Spain is comparatively affordable. The same applies to Gran Canaria, but since the island is quite touristy, it pays to know where you are going. Prices at tourist-facing spots can be significantly higher than at local places.
Where to stay as a digital nomad in Gran Canaria
If you're looking for other digital nomads, a nice city-vibe life close to the coast and good infrastructure, your place to be is Las Palmas. It is quite common to live in the area of Las Canteras, which is the biggest beach in the city and the place where a lot of meetups happen.
If you're looking for a perfect mix of social but closer to nature, we can really recommend Agaete. It's a little town about 45 minutes from Las Palmas and offers great views, ocean access and a much quieter pace of life.

A day in the life of a Digital nomad in Gran Canaria
In our opinion, you have all kinds of possibilities to structure your days on Gran Canaria exactly the way you want and need for your work.
During the week
Start your morning with a run along the coast and breakfast at an ocean-view café, or head straight to one of the great coworkings and get into your flow. After work, the options are endless: a beach yoga session, testing your surf skills, or joining one of the many nomad meetups. And whatever you do, don't skip the Canarian food.

On the weekend
Weekends are made for exploring. In the nomad groups there's always a hiking route being organized that you can just join, or you grab a rental car and head out on your own. Roque Nublo is a must.
For a more relaxed day, take the bus south and lose yourself in the dunes of Maspalomas or find a quiet beach spot. Snorkeling is also big on the Canary Islands, and with the clear Atlantic water it's easy to see why.
End the day watching the sunset from the coast and you'll quickly understand why so many nomads end up staying longer than planned.
How to get to Gran Canaria & where to go next
You can fly into Las Palmas or hop over by ferry from one of the other Canary Islands like Tenerife. Many nomads turn their stay into a bigger trip, doing some island hopping across the Canaries or continuing on to Spanish cities like Barcelona or Madrid.

Some last words...
Gran Canaria, and especially Las Palmas, has pretty much everything you could wish for as a digital nomad. Great infrastructure, a big community, and a lifestyle that's hard not to love. It's also a perfect place to try out the nomad life for the first time. And if you want to skip the "finding your people" phase, just book a spot in a coliving and you're already surrounded by like-minded nomads from day one.
