Coliving & Remote Work Glossary
What is Urban Coliving?
Urban coliving is a housing model that places shared living spaces in large cities — often designed for young professionals, students, or people seeking affordable housing with shorter leases. These spaces typically offer furnished private rooms with shared kitchens or lounges, and prioritize convenience over community.
They’re often apartment-style setups with minimal social programming.
Why Does Urban Coliving Matter for Digital Nomads or Remote Workers?
While not always designed with nomads in mind, urban coliving can be a practical option in big cities — especially for those looking for flexible housing without dealing with long-term leases or high up-front costs.
That said, for remote workers and nomads who value connection, urban coliving often lacks community-driven features like shared events, coworking areas, or on-site hosts.
How Does Nomadico Relate to Urban Coliving?
While Nomadico does operate in cities — like Medellín and Cape Town — we’re not an urban coliving brand in the traditional sense. Instead of placing homes in busy downtown areas, we choose more local, authentic neighborhoods within those cities — quieter, more grounded spaces where remote workers can focus and connect.
And unlike most urban colivings, we always put community first — with events, coworking setups, and community managers at the heart of every home.
Common Misconceptions About Urban Coliving
“Urban coliving is designed for remote workers.”
Not usually. Most urban colivings cater to students or city-based professionals, not digital nomads.
“It includes community events and hosts.”
Some do — but many don’t. Community is often an afterthought, not a core focus.
“It’s the same as coliving everywhere else.”
Urban coliving is more about location and convenience than the lifestyle-driven coliving model Nomadico embraces.
