Coliving & Remote Work Glossary
What is a Community Potluck?
A community potluck is a shared meal where everyone contributes a dish, snack, or drink. No one’s expected to cook a feast — just to bring something to the table. It’s casual, collaborative, and a great way to connect over food.
Why Does a Community Potluck Matter for Digital Nomads or Remote Workers?
When you're living or traveling with others, food has a magical way of bringing people together. Potlucks make it easy — they lower the barrier to connection and create a fun, co-created atmosphere. For remote workers, it’s a great way to take a break from solo routines and share a laugh (and a recipe).
They’re also budget-friendly and inclusive — everyone contributes what they can.
How Does Nomadico Relate to Community Potlucks?
Potlucks often happen organically at Nomadico — sometimes in addition to our weekly family dinners, and sometimes in place of them when guests feel like mixing things up. Community managers or guests will casually suggest it in the group chat, and suddenly there’s a table full of tacos, homemade hummus, or someone’s grandmother’s secret pasta dish.
It’s an easy, joyful way to co-create connection — no pressure, no perfection.
Common Misconceptions About Community Potlucks
“You have to be a great cook.”
Not at all — chips and guac, store-bought snacks, or even just drinks are all welcome.
“It’s formal or structured.”
Potlucks are as relaxed as it gets. Come as you are, bring what you can, enjoy what others share.
“There’s pressure to impress.”
The best potlucks are about warmth, not presentation. It’s about showing up, not showing off.
