Surf & Work

What is Surf & Work?

Surf & work is a lifestyle combo where people balance remote work with surfing - often choosing destinations where they can ride waves in the morning and take Zoom calls in the afternoon. It blends productivity with play and is especially popular in coastal digital nomad hubs.

Work hard, surf harder.

Why Does the Term Matter for Remote Workers or Digital Nomads?

Many digital nomads choose locations based on lifestyle, not just internet speed. Surf & work represents the freedom of being able to organize your day around both your job and your passions. It’s also a great way to meet people and stay active - which can be tough when you’re moving around a lot.

It’s a perfect example of designing your life, not just your career.

How Does Nomadico Relate to Surf & Work?

Nomadico has several homes located in or near surf spots - like taghazout bay (Morocco), Ericeira (Portugal), and Florianópolis (Brazil) - where many guests naturally integrate surfing into their daily rhythm. Surfing often becomes a shared activity, especially in the mornings or evenings, and it’s common for guests to head out together between work sessions.

In some locations, like Morocco, our coliving partner also runs a surf school, making it easy for guests to join lessons or rent gear. And during slower seasons, we occasionally run promotions that include organized surf lessons to encourage more people to join.

It’s not something we formalize everywhere - but if the waves are nearby, someone’s usually paddling out.

Common Misconceptions About Surf & Work

“You have to be an experienced surfer.”

Not at all - many nomads start as beginners. Lessons and rentals are often easy to find.

“It’s not a serious work lifestyle.”

Surfing often happens early morning or late afternoon, allowing for a full, productive workday in between.

“You can surf anywhere.”

True surf & work locations need consistent waves and good internet - that combo isn’t everywhere.
