Coliving & Remote Work Glossary
What is Vanlife?
Vanlife is a lifestyle where people live and travel in a van (or campervan), often working remotely along the way. It’s about minimalism, freedom, and mobility - turning the road into your home and workspace.
It’s a rolling version of remote life, complete with mountain views and campsite WiFi.
Why Does the Term Matter for Remote Workers or Travelers?
Vanlife has become a popular branch of the digital nomad lifestyle, especially for those who crave nature, flexibility, and independence. You can chase better weather, work near surf spots, or just avoid paying rent entirely. For many, it’s a dream mix of mobility and simplicity - though it also comes with unique challenges like finding WiFi and power.
It’s remote work unplugged (sometimes literally).
How Does Nomadico Relate to Vanlife?
Nomadico and vanlifers cross paths more than you'd think. While we don’t offer van rentals or camping spots, many vanlife travelers book with us when they want a break - to recharge, connect with community, or get some solid WiFi and workspace time. Some even use Nomadico homes as longer pit stops in between road stretches.
And thanks to tools like Starlink, it’s easier than ever for vanlifers to stay connected - but even with satellite internet, a cozy home base every now and then can be a welcome change.
Common Misconceptions About Vanlife
“It’s super cheap.”
It can be, but fuel, maintenance, gear, and campsites add up - it’s not always a budget lifestyle.
“You can work from anywhere.”
Sort of - but you’ll need to plan for power, signal, and quiet. Not every mountaintop has 5G.
“It’s lonely.”
It can be, but many vanlifers form strong communities - and often meet others on the road or at shared stops.
