Wow, time flies by when you’re having fun… It seems like yesterday that we started our first community in Madeira and everything was unexplored territory. Back then it was just Matilde (Nomadico’s first community manager and now co-founder) and I, creating a unique experience in one of the most stunning parts of Madeira island. This starting point set the foundation for Nomadico and shaped the values we still live by today:
🌿 Sustainability - travel that gives back
💬 Local Impact - working with communities, not just in them
🤝Inclusiveness - spaces where everyone belongs
🌊 Adventure - curiosity is our compass
✨ Co-creation - built by locals and nomads, together

Since then Nomadico has evolved a lot. We grew internationally to some of the coolest spots in the world, we had Kevin and Jon join us as co-founders and we kept improving everything we do - standards, community, experience, impact…
Now, 3 years in and with a new branding, It’s a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished so far, and what we are aiming to achieve moving forward. Always connected to our values and the impact we seek to have. We hope this resonates with you and we’d love your thoughts if you have ideas or suggestions.
Sustainability

Sustainability at Nomadico is a combination of our model (leveraging underutilised space in the off-season) with specific efforts via events, partnerships, education and others.
Currently:
- 65% of our locations are seasonal, supporting local businesses and economies only in the off-season
- We organise beach clean-ups in different locations around the world
- Recycling is part of our Nomadico standards (subject to availability in each destination)
Future:
- Encouraging more overland travel (more Nomadico homes, plus facilitating easier overland travel)
- Highlighting sustainable practices and features of our homes
- Reduce plastic, waste and promote more sustainable lifestyle choices via partnerships and content
- More events with a bigger impact
- Join 1% for the planet
Local Impact

Similar as with our sustainability goals, our impact on locals is inherent to our model, as well as a result of specific actions and strategies.
Currently:
- 100% of our partners are local businesses. Over 50% are locals from the country.
- We have donated to disaster relief programs in our destinations like the 2023 earthquake in Morocco
- We partner with local businesses for events and activities
- We encourage shopping and purchasing at local businesses
Future:
- We want to find more and better ways to connect our Nomadico community with the local community. This will be done via events, partnerships, content and other ways of giving back. One incredibly powerful asset we have at Nomadico is our collective knowledge. Let’s be honest, we are a very smart and tech savvy bunch. We want to find ways to leverage this to empower locals.
- More support for natural disasters and other local crisis
- Bigger and better events with the aim to support locals
Inclusiveness

We have hosted remote workers from all around the world - over 50 nationalities! From first hand experience we are confident this creates unique communities that allow us to learn from each other and create a world we believe in - connected and inclusive.
Currently
- Affordable pricing with room options for different budgets. Our goal is to always offer great value.
- We are proud to have hosted over 50 nationalities
- Global brand, attracting nomads and travelers from all over the world
Future:
- Create an even wider range of options of homes and destinations
- Keep growing our community and diversity of nationalities
- Offer opportunities for remote workers from developing countries to explore the world with us
Adventure

From the very first Nomadico in the legendary surf spot of Jardim do Mar in Madeira, adventure was baked into the experience and values. We believe that getting outside of your comfort zone often makes for the most memorable moments.
Currently:
- We love to create Nomadicos in what we call AMDs -> Authentic, Magical Destinations. Whether that’s a small village, a remote place in nature, or an up and coming neighbourhood in a city - we always choose adventure and authenticity.
- In every Nomadico, once a week we organize an adventure. This can look like outdoor adventures but also other activities - something new that often gets our people slightly out of their comfort zone.
Future:
- Curate more unforgettable events and experiences across our locations
- Take our adventures to the next level via partnerships
Co-Creation

Co-creation is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it´s how we operate our colivings, the events we co-create with the community in each destination, how we go about marketing and even finding new Nomadico partners. We are super excited to keep exploring how we can co-create Nomadico as a whole, with all of you.
Currently:
- We are co-creating our colivings with local partners including Nomadico guests like in Sri Lanka with AJ and Nadun from Slow Life
- Our experience on the ground in each destination is 100% shaped by the interests and input from our guests
- Nomadico Wizards - a volunteer program for a select number of highly skilled marketers that help us with advice and specific tasks in exchange for stay credits at Nomadico. A special thank you to Hannah, Anniek, Naitik, Parisa, Faith, Carlo and Adrien for all your support.
- Partner Hunters - a program where a select number of highly motivated hustlers help us find Nomadico partners around the world. Massive shout out to Theis and Tsiulang for helping us find epic homes and partners around the world!
Future:
You tell us 😉 We are eager to hear from creative and entrepreneurial minds and together keep innovating and taking the future of remote work, community and coliving to the next level.

Thank you legends. To everyone who has been part of our journey - thank you for being part of this and to many more years ahead of us! Cheers! 🥂
Much love,
Bill
